Tommy D and the Block Party

I went to pick up the kids from Gloria's on Monday, the only thing on my mind what we're going to have for dinner and having a relaxing evening. Life has a way of throwing the unexpected at you once in a while though and that's what happened to us.

Somehow Gloria had come in the possession of a kitten (I never got the full story) and was looking for a home for him. When she asked me if we wanted him, I of course said "NO!" Then I made the mistake of looking at him and petting him. It was all over at that point. We were going to be taking home a new little kitty.

Meet Tommy Dakota Cruz:

He is a little sweetie who loves snuggling, playing, and has been 100% perfect in using his litter box.
Needless to say, the kids adore him. We've had to set some rules and make them take turns. There has also had to be some learning about the proper ways to handle a kitten.
The kids are learning though and Tommy has been a great addition to our family.
Oh yeah, and Mason lost another tooth - hence the whole in his mouth.
Luis made a wonderful German pancake breakfast for us this morning. This one was his best specimen. He took a picture of it.
This afternoon was the annual Fairoaks block party. In prior years, we've been out of town or have had other plans and hadn't been able to attend. Since we didn't have anything going on today, we thought it would be fun to go check it out. We loaded up the wagon with our chairs and headed down the street.
Unbeknownst to us, our street takes its block party very seriously. It started out with a parade, complete with bagpipes. As you can see, decorations and people were a-plenty. So was food and music.
The parade participants were quite festive.
And our neighborhood Elvis was on hand. He performs weekly at the Portland Parks Movies in the Park most Friday nights so I think we're going to try to catch him there in a couple of weeks.
Siena and I participated in the water balloon toss. We didn't win but we did well and advanced several rounds before our little balloon exploded in a wet blaze of glory.
This is the neighborhood map where all party-goers live in the neighborhood. Our sticker is the blue one at the far right...just before the street dead ends.
The kids' favorite part may have been the sidewalk chalk. And the candy.
Mason did a beautiful flower.
We're getting antsy for football season to start but it was still a nice weekend.
